Tracking down the remains of the Old Woman...
As each year rolls by less and less of the original O&W remains. As you drive along Route 17 the right-of-way can still be made out on the hillsides along side the road, but time is taking its toll. Soon the vegetation will completely cover what is left. There are a few bright spots however. The town of Parksville has turned part if the roadbeds into a Rails-To-Trails park and Cooks Falls and Highview station are beautifully restored. However, every year less and less of the railroad is recognizable. If you have the chance to be in the area, take some time and search it out. You never know how much longer you'll be able to find the O&W...As often as I can try to chance to chase down the remains of the O&W before they are gone.
